Mano Murthy protests plagiarisation of his music

Popular Kannada music director Mano Murthy is contemplating legal action against the producer and the music director of ‘Vaana’ for ‘unabashed plagiarisation of original tunes’ and denial of credit to the original composer.

Murthy alleges that four of his original tunes for blockbuster ‘Mungaru Male’ have been used for Telugu film ‘Vaana’, produced and directed by M.S. Raju.

The audio and CD albums of the songs, released recently, do not have his name on the cover. The credit is given instead to Telugu music director Karunakar. The Kannada composer is sore because the makers didn’t bother to give him credit for the tunes.

Murthy says he felt humiliated about the omission of his name in the audio publicity material.

‘I don’t want money from the producers who have used my musical compositions. But I think they should have given me credit for all the efforts I had made to create the original tunes,’ an upset Murthy told IANS.

‘I am told all these tunes have become popular in Telugu also,’ he added.

The four tunes are those for ‘Anisuthide yaako eno’, ‘Ondhe ondhu saari’, ‘Mungaru male’, and ‘Nanna geleyanalla’.

This is not the first time that a filmmaker has been accused of using tunes without giving credit to the creator. Some time ago, music director S.A. Raj Kumar also expressed his unhappiness over alleged denial of credit for many of his tunes used in Kannada films by many other composers.

Recently, composer Guru Kiran had voiced anger at similar use of his tunes for ‘Jogi’ allegedly by producers of Tamil film ‘Parattai Engira Azhagu Sundaram’, which has Dhanush in the lead. Source: IANS

It’s already four days into another eventful year. Fans have a veritable feast in store. The most awaited film is defi- nitely “Gaali Pata” which was slated for release today but has been pushed to the January 18. The reticent Ratnaja’s “Honganasu” is also getting released on the same day. Incidentally, the songs of these two films are fighting it out where audio sales are concerned. There’s Kavita Lankesh’s “Avva” starring Vijay. Ramesh is wrapping up “Accident” and hopes to release the film by the end of March. “Duniya” Suri has quietly finished his next film produced by Yograj Bhat.

It can bee seen from the about list that none of the major stars movies figure here. Looks like the audiences are tired of the same faces performing the same stunts and spewing rhetoric. Kannada audiences are embracing fresh talent bursting with ideas.

Lakshmi Rai in Kannada

Says Lakshmi, “I had rejected quite a few offers in Kannada because of no important story in it. This one is very promising and it is a chunky role. Director Ramesh came to me and handed over the CD of his film Cyanide. I have seen the film and learnt about the strong team of this film. I felt it is the right project. The songs are also good.”

Of late, she was seen opposite Mohanlal in ‘Rock N Roll’. The actress also has a few Kollywood offers in hand. But for now she wishes to concentrate only on her Kannada assignments.

The movie directed by Yograj Bhat featuring Ganesh, Sanjana Gandhi, and Anant Nag in leading roles will be completing its sucessful run for a year this December 29th. It is still having a successful run in the PVR cinema hall in Bangalore. ‘Mungaru Male’ started off with 16 prints is now spread out with 136 prints is also a record in the history of Kannada cinema history. A must mention here is Mano Murthy with his melodius tunes and sweet music and Krishna’s cinematography which are the highlights of the movie and the secret behind the success of the film.

An intresting story of the making of Mungaru male is that director Yograj Bhat after his Ranga S.S.L.C starring Sudeep  did badly at the boxoffice, started Mungaru Male in a dissappointed note and approched Puneeth Rajkumar for the role who refused it. Ganesh, whose first film Chellata was a moderate success, liked the script and introduced Yograj Bhat to producer E.Krishnappa. Krishnappa agreed to fund the film, but the director could not get dates from any leading Kannada actress and he signed a relatively unknown actress Sanjana Gandhi and the rest is history!!

The movie is arguably one of the biggest hits in South Indian cinema with box office  with Rs 50 Crores collection in 300 days and is expected to be screened for more 3  months after its 365 days completion.
