Lucky Darshan

Lucky Darshan

It is rare that a big star will be able to know the reaction of his fans on the day his films releases. But Darshan was lucky enough to get such an opportunity thanks to a programme organised by a Kannada channel. On the day “Gaja” released, action hero Darshan was able to interact with many of his fans in various parts of Karnataka and he was quite happy and excited to get a positive reaction about the film.

After a long time “Gaja” has taken a fantastic opening throughout the state only to confirm that the actor enjoys a huge popularity among the masses. “We can talk and talk about our films. And whatever we speak about our film during the pre-release press meets or channel interviews will be meaningless if the people do not accept the film.

Our efforts have to be necessarily recognized by the people who watch our film. And I have always felt that is the sole parameter to determine the value of the film. That is why I am so happy that Gaja has been liked by fans who are seeing it again and again. The efforts of the entire team has been vindicated through the huge response the film has obtained in the first five day’s of the film’s release,” says Darshan. Source: Hindu

The secret is finally out. A few months back the media was abuzz with a young Kavita Kundra, who accused her producer husband Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty for wrecking her marriage.

Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra dating!!

After six months of denial, Shilpa Shetty has admitted that she is dating London-based NRI entrepreneur, Raj Kundra. In a statement from her publicist, Dale Bhagwagar, Shilpa said, “I’m not denying it’s him (Raj) but I hope when this comes out, it doesn’t frighten him off!”.

“It’s too early to speculate marriage. All I can say is that Shilpa is dating Raj. She’s just started to know him better. So let’s give her some time and not jump to conclusions. But their affair could just turn out to be the biggest love story of 2008” says Dale.

It can be recalled that when Shilpa was accused by Raj’s wife Kavitha, both of them denied it and claimed to be “just friends.”

Kavita’s revelations come after a fuelled by snaps of Shilpa and Raj who helped launch her S2 perfume shopping together. He also escorted her to a recent Bollywood Oscars bash in Yorkshire. Raj, who even finances and produces movies, had presented the Jimmy Shergill-Kay Kay Menon starrer Strangers which released successfully a few weeks ago.

Beware, litter cops are watching

Beware, litter cops are watching

These litter cops will levy spot fines ranging from Rs 100 to Rs 1,000, depending on the nature of the offence committed.

As part of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike’s efforts to bring about a cleaner City, 60 “litter cops” have been appointed to rein in littering public on four major commercial thoroughfares.

These “litter cops” will levy spot fines ranging from Rs 100 to Rs 1,000, depending on the nature of the offence committed.

Kempe Gowda Road, M G Road, Cubbon Road and Commercial Street are the thoroughfares which these cops will be patrolling within a fortnight, official sources told Deccan Herald. “Misusing water meant for drinking, urinating in public, throwing garbage around, spitting/expectorating and allowing pet animals to mess around are aspects these cops will be monitoring very keenly,” they said.

Dustbins will be placed every 100 metres on these streets to ensure that the public has a proper garbage disposal system in place.

“The cops will be equipped with a handycam each to record the behaviour of the public so that the charges won’t be disputed,” the sources said. They will also have special uniforms bearing BBMP logos.

BBMP officials will be around to assist them in their work, the sources said.

The team will be empowered to issue show-cause notice to shopkeepers as well as individuals who do not abide by rules. There are plans to increase the number of “litter cops” to cover 200 commercial streets in the City at a later stage.

A Bangalore-based agency, Major Territorial Army, headed by B N Nandukumar, a retired army man, has been awarded the contract.

The provision for penalty has been made under the Karnataka Municipal Corporation Act 1996 Sec 431 Schedule (1). Citizens who violate the rule can be booked for cognisable offence under KMC Act 478 and Compounding of Offence Rules 1996.

Benazir Bhutto Killed in Attack

Pakistan former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto Killed in Attack

After surviving several assassination attempts in the past, PPP leader Benazir Bhutto was not so lucky on Thursday as she was killed by two gunmen who opened fire at her right after she finished addressing a rally at Liaquatbagh.

Bhutto got off the stage after addressing the rally and started moving towards her car. Her vehicle moved a certain distance and she was surrounded by party supporters.

She came out of the car and just then two attackers with AK 47s pumped her with bullets, one in the neck and two in the head, before blowing themselves up.

The attack also killed more than 20 people and left several others injured.

Following Bhutto’s death, a high alert has been sounded in Pakistan. President Musharraf has convened an emergency meeting of top advisors. Shops and petrol pumps have closed in many cities fearing violence.

Shops across Rawalpindi are being torched by PPP supporters. Asif Zardari and his children are on their way to Karachi.

According to preliminary reports, Benazir finished the rally at 5:30 pm at Liaquatbagh and was on her way back to Ralwal. She got into the car and was soon after attacked by two people with AK 47s. A suicide bomber blew himself up next to car.

Nawaz Sharif described Benazir Bhutto’s assassination as the most tragic incident in the history of Pakistan.

”I myself feel threatened,” says Sharif, whose party temporarily suspended the electioneering in the wake of the assassination.

”Are things in control now? Had things been in control, would this have happened?” he said, adding that Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf would have to give answers.

”I also feel unprotected and the lady must also have been feeling very unprotected,” Sharif said.

Criticising Musharraf, he said, ”If Musharraf can spend crores on his own security, could he not spend some amount on the security of Bhutto.”

Fifty-four-year-old Benazir was rushed to Rawalpindi general hospital, where she was pronounced dead nearly 40 minutes later.

”We are traumatised. People all over are crying. Everyone is saying that this Army has killed Benazir. There is going to be more bloodshed. Will the world now finally wake up? said a distraught Asma Jehangir, Chairperson, Pak Human Rights Commission.

”It is very tragic. It has shocked every Pakistani,” said Ayaz Amir, columnist.

Prof. Bhim Singh, Chairman of the National Panthers Party and Member of National Integration Council (NIC) while condemning the brutal assassination of Benazir Bhutto Pakistan’s foremost political leader and the former Prime Minister termed it as most cowardice act of the terrorists and total failure of Pakistan government.

Bhutto is survived by her husband Asif Ali Zardari and three children. Before she returned to Pakistan in October, Benazir Bhutto told NDTV that she was not afraid of the threats.

In the first reactions coming in from New Delhi, Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma said, ”We are shocked and saddened by this. Benazir was a promising leader with her own stature in Pakistan. It has happened at a time when the people of Pakistan were looking up to her. We offer our condolences to her bereaved family members and friends.”

Benazir is likely to be buried on Friday in Larkana near her father’s grave.

National and provincial assembly elections in Pakistan are due on January 8.

In October some 130 people were killed in an attack on Bhutto’s cavalcade when she returned to the country.

It was one of the worst incidents of violence in a year of deteriorating security in Pakistan.

South on road to $20 bn industrial corridor

There may be a second industrial corridor in the making. Inspired by the proposed Delhi-Mumbai industrial corridor, the Tamil Nadu government has asked the commerce & industry ministry to consider a Bangalore-Chennai corridor. Government officials believe the corridor would entail an investment of around $20 billion.

“The Tamil Nadu government is of the view that the corridor between Chennai and Bangalore already has several key components in terms of availability of industries, skilled manpower and other basic infrastructure facilities,” said a senior official of the department of industrial policy & promotion (Dipp).

Officials feel the corridor can capitalise on the strengths of Chennai and Bangalore. The international airports in Chennai and Bangalore and the two major sea ports at Chennai and Ennore can further contribute to the growth of this corridor. Bangalore owes its strength to Information Technology while Chennai’s strength lies in automobile technology, manufacturing and electronics. The corridor would also facilitate the development of the neighbourhood within a radius of 20-25 km.

The Tamil Nadu government has said many multinational companies have set up huge manufacturing hubs in Chennai. Several special economic zones are also on cards. While most investments are in the Chennai-Sriperumbudur corridor, companies have already started setting up industries beyond Chennai-Sriperumbudur, and up to Ranipet. The Tamil Nadu government now wants to take this development up to Bangalore along the same highway.

The Centre may soon ask state governments to prepare feasibility reports for the corridor and arrange for finance from Indian as well as international financial institutions. “We think this corridor would benefit from the expertise the government has acquired while developing the Delhi-Mumbai industrial corridor,” an official said.

Meanwhile, the Centre as well as states have started work on the Delhi-Mumbai industrial corridor. States have started demarcating specific areas to be covered in each hub, drawing up plans for their development as industrial hubs with special economic zones, industrial estates, logistics parks and knowledge centres.
